Continuing on the content repurposing topic, today I would like to share with you some thoughts on reusing your existing posts to create a slideshow presentation.
You may not have considered this before, but you can actually use your PowerPoint slides to help you generate new web traffic. The secret power of PowerPoint helping to drive web traffic lies with a program known as Slideshare, and here’s how you can use it effectively.
What is Slideshare?
Slideshare is one of many document sharing websites available on the World Wide Web. Unlike others that primarily specialize in Word documents, Slideshare hosts PowerPoint presentations from users just like you. Registering for the site is absolutely free.
Why use Slideshare?
Slideshare tends to rank well among various search engines, especially for key phrases that deal with how to do something, or product reviews. As a result, users may be able to locate your PowerPoint presentation via Slideshare, and you can include internal links that would lead them back to your website.
Modifying your Content
In addition to adding a link back to your site, you may want to modify some of your slides to make them more engaging to the reader. For example, they should contain short bullet points rather than lengthy paragraphs of text, as this will enable readers to “skim” them for information.
The simplest way to turn a plain article into a nice PowerPoint presentation is to simply copy and paste the article into PowerPoint, with each paragraph on a new slide.
Format your slides with colors, bulleted lists, numbered lists, bolded features, colored text boxes and images.
When you open your slides you will be presented with text boxes already on the slides. Don’t forget that you can move these boxes around as you wish. You can easily create several smaller boxes, or you may want to have text down one side and an image on the other side.
Avoid using a solid white background, as this could make your presentation seem boring. Even so, don’t clutter your slides with too many graphics to make them seem overwhelming.
Add a call to action on the last slide. This call to action can include a telephone number and email address in addition to having a link back to your site.
Uploading the Presentation
Once you have tweaked your PowerPoint presentation, you can upload it to the site. Add a title and tags to make it easily searchable.
Once you upload it, perform a run through in order to see how your finished product looks.
In time, you’ll become adept at using Slideshare, and notice increased web traffic as a result of it. What’s your take on it? Please let us know in comments.
